GOLDEN RING OF RUSSIA Golden Ring is the name of a 700-kilometer long bus route beginning in Moscow and passing through big and small old towns distinguished for their great historical and architectural value. Travellers virtually immerse in Russia's history as they visit gold domed cathedrals and monasteries which date as far back as the 12th century. They will be amazed at the great number of unique monuments, the variety of museums, art galleries and souvenir shops. Each town has a charm of its own, giving the visitors the feel of Russian provincial life and hospitality of local people.
Having emerged in the 11th - 12th centuries the towns of Vladimir, Suzdal, Rostov played a significant role in Russia's early history. Vladimir founded as a fortress by Prince Vladimir Monomakh later became capital of Grand Principality. The Prince's son Yury Dolgoruky known as the founder of Moscow set up a number of new towns in the area, among them are Pereslavl-Zalessky, Kostroma, Yuriev-Polsky. Simultaneously, as was common practice those days, OrthodoxChurches and monasteries sprang to serve both as spiritual centers and fortresses for the local people. Today owing to immense restoration work done visitors can see genuine masterpieces of Russian art - from old time frescoes and icons to 18th and 19th century paintings. Travellers nowadays have a good opportunity to familiarize themselves with old Russian architecture and enjoy beautiful landscapes and unhasty provincial life. We offer a choice of itineraries depending on customers' interests and the amount of time at their disposal.
